TeamsID design and development inspiration: Slack

October 1, 20153 min read

Over the past few years as we have built TeamsID, there have been a few applications and services that have been inspirations for us. Some of these applications we also used extensively to help our own development team work together. One of these "two-fers" apps that was both a design that inspired us as well as a tool that we used day to day (and continue to use) is Slack. So I'm proud to say that if you use Slack, I think you'll find some instant familiarity with TeamsID and the ways it can help you and your colleagues be more productive.

I'd like to use that classic phrasing "if you like Slack, you'll love TeamsID," but since Slack has a few years' lead on us in developing and tuning their product, let's tweak that a bit and say "if you love Slack, you'll also like TeamsID." What is Slack? An elegant collaboration tool. Simply put, just as TeamsID is a team collaboration tool for passwords and other sensitive records, Slack is a team collaboration tool for messaging.

In TeamsID, your groups that share records are called teams. In Slack, these same groups that share messages are channels. The beauty of Slack is the elegance of the design that makes it into a powerful collaboration tool that in many cases replaces email, chat, or phone calls. We designed TeamsID with a similar design that enables simple and elegant collaborative sharing of passwords and other records, replacing sending passwords by email, IM, or Skype messages. Anywhere and everywhere productivity.

One of the other things we like about Slack is that it has excellent native mobile apps for iOS and Android as well as desktop apps. We also believe in native app development for all the platforms and devices our customers use. So unlike most password managers, TeamsID has not only native iOS and Android apps but also dedicated native Windows and Mac apps.

How we use Slack
SplashData has teams in three continents, so virtual collaboration is essential for us. We have Slack channels created for the executive team, developers, sales, marketing, quality control, and customer support. There are channels for specific products and platforms. Plus we have public channels for company information, product updates, competition, and one just for fun.

It's very similar to how we ourselves use TeamsID, which we'll get to in an upcoming post....
